How to Clear Cookies on Chrome
By Corbin HartwickUpdated on June 28, 2018
When you use Chrome, you’re probably going to end up getting a few cookies on your computer. Some are useful and help you use a website properly or more efficiently, while others just help to annoy you with advertisements. In any case, you might want to get rid of them occasionally, as they take up memory space and can be used to track your Internet activity (even the supposedly “good” ones).
If you need a reminder about what cookies are or do, or a more thorough explanation of why you should delete them sometimes, see our What are Cookies and How to Clear Cookies tutorials.
How to clear your Chrome web browser of cookies
1. Launch your Chrome web browser by double-clicking on its icon.
2. Click on the menu icon in the top right corner (it looks like a set of three bars), move your mouse cursor over More Tools, and click Clear Browsing Data.
(HINT: as a shortcut, you can also hold down the “Control” and “Shift” keys on your keyboard, and then press the “Delete” key.)
3. A new window will appear, giving you choices as to what kind of browsing data you want to get rid of. Click the check box beside “Cookies and Other Site and Plugin Data” to mark it (if it isn’t already marked).
Next, click the drop-down menu beside “Obliterate the Following Items From:” and select to delete your cookies from The Past Hour, The Past Day, The Past Week, The Last 4 Weeks, or The Beginning of Time (i.e. delete all cookies currently on your computer). After choosing what time frame you want to clear cookies from, click Clear Browsing History.
There you go! You’ve cleared your cookies for Chrome, and now know the steps for doing it again when necessary! For our final Chrome-specific tutorial, we’ll go over how to enable or disable cookies completely.
