How to Edit Your Match.com Profile
By Corbin HartwickUpdated on March 16, 2022
As with any major online dating website (like eHarmony.com), your profile should be a focal point to express who you are and what you’re looking for in a partner. If your Match.com profile just isn’t quite right, perhaps because your interests have changed or you missed filling something out when creating your profile, then you can easily change it. You can also add extra photos of exciting stuff that you’ve done, or even hide your profile if you don’t want to be bothered while looking for matches.
Editing your Match.com profile
Go to www.match.com in your web browser and log in (if you haven’t already). From any screen, there are two ways to get to your profile to edit it.
- Click Welcome [your user name]
- Click your picture in the menu across the top
There are three categories of settings that you can change, denoted by the tabs near the top of your profile. Click each of them to switch between categories of settings.
Profile Settings Categories
About
This is the category you should see first. It contains everything you told Match about yourself and what you are looking for in a match.
Click the pencil icon beside any subcategory to edit it.
Now, make any changes you want by clicking on buttons, check boxes, or drop-down menu items, or by clicking and typing in text boxes, just like you did when you first created your profile (see our previous tutorial for the specifics).
When you’re done, click Apply, or click Cancel if you decide that you don’t want to make changes after all.
Photos
This category lets you see all the photos that you’ve put on Match. It also lets you upload more photos or bring over your photos from Facebook, write comments about your photos, or select which photo you want to use as your profile picture.
Note that the service may have to approve your photos or captions before you can do certain things.
To add more photos, click the Choose Photo button.
A window will come up allowing you to look through your computer files. When you find the photo you want, click to select it, and then click Open.
The top part of the window shows you your current photos. You can have up to 26 photos on your profile. Click on a photo in this window to immediately take you to its options (or you can just scroll down the screen to it instead).
When you see a larger version of one of your photos, there are a couple of things you can do with it. You can say something about it by clicking in the box that says “Write a caption for this photo” and typing a description. Then click Add Caption.
If your photo has been approved, you can make it your profile picture by clicking Make This My Primary Photo. This option will say “This Is My Primary Photo” if the photo is already your profile picture.
If you don’t want the picture on your profile anymore, click the “X” in the top right corner. You will see it says “Delete Photo” if you move your mouse over it.
Settings
This is where you can control a few other options and additional features.
One of the things you can change here is whether or not your profile is visible. Click to select one of three options:
- Visible — Your profile can be viewed by anyone on the platform. Choose this setting to keep the interest in you coming in.
- Private Mode — Your profile can only be viewed by people whom you have communicated with. This makes it easy to focus on a few select people whom you like at a time. However, it is an extra feature that you have to pay for (click Upgrade Now if you want it).
- Hidden — Your profile cannot be viewed by anyone. Choose this setting if you want to just look for people yourself without having them try to find and contact you.
You can also choose whether or not you are using the “Member Spotlight” feature. This lets the service use your profile in its advertising on its website and partner websites, so you have a better chance of being seen by someone who likes you.
Click the respective buttons next to “ON” and “OFF” to opt in or out of this feature.
There! Now you know how to change up your profile if you ever need to!
