With so many valuable perks and tricks to make your life easier, it’s no wonder that Zoom has become one of the top video conferencing platforms. One really cool feature is the inclusion of meeting rooms, each equipped with their own ID.
If you want to learn more about Zoom Meeting IDs, we’ll help you do so.
Before we learn how to find a Meeting ID, let’s dive into what it is. If you’re still brand new to Zoom, make sure to start with our Zoom quick start guide.
A Zoom Meeting ID is a 10 to 11 digit number associated with a meeting, whether instant or scheduled in advance. There are four different types of IDs:
A Zoom Personal Meeting ID (PMI) is a unique group of digits assigned to every Zoom user to allow for easy access to their own personal meeting room. Your PMI can be used to start instant meetings or schedule meetings in the future. Unless changed or removed, your PMI will be permanently yours to use whenever and however you please.
1. Go to https://zoom.us/signin and log into your account.
2. Click on Profile.
3. In the “Personal Meeting ID” section, click on Edit.
4. Enter a 10-digit ID of your choice in the box highlighted in the screenshot below.
5. Click the checkbox labeled “Use Personal Meeting ID for Instant Meetings” to mark it (if it isn’t already marked) if you want to enable the use of your PMI for instant meetings.
6. Click on Save Changes when you’re done.
While customizing your PMI is easy enough, you must meet the following criteria:
A Zoom personal link is a URL assigned to your personal meeting room. Your Zoom personal link can be shared with invitees to allow them to easily access your personal meeting room. The URL will often contain your PMI; however, those with paid plans — like a Pro-tier license or higher — can choose to customize it.
1. Go to https://zoom.us/signin and log into your account.
2. Click on Profile.
3. In the “Personal Link” section, click Customize.

Like a custom Personal Meeting ID, your personal link must follow certain rules:
Pro Tip
It is also not advisable to use a common name as the name for your personal meeting link, like “john” or “mary”. This can be easily guessed, and so is not very secure. Zoom may even reject it outright, in some cases.
Zoom meeting IDs expire in order to ensure that unused IDs are available for future use. With the exception of PMIs, IDs will no longer be functional after a specific amount of time of non-usage, depending on the type of Meeting ID. These include:
Sometimes you might find yourself in a situation where you need to grab the Meeting ID during the meeting. Here is how to find it.
1. Click on the “i” (Info) icon in the top left corner of the meeting window. Here you’ll be able to see the Meeting ID, the Password, and the Invitation URL.
You can also find the Meeting ID while viewing the meeting’s participants.
1. Click on Participants.
2. Click on the Invite button.
3. You will now be able to see the Meeting ID and password in the invite window.
Tap on Zoom at the top of the screen. This will display all information, including the Meeting ID, in a pop-up.
Pro Tip
If you’re attempting to invite others to join the meeting, you can locate the Meeting ID by looking for the 10 to 11 digit number found in the invitation URL.

You can also do this on your mobile device using the following steps:

3. Click on Personal Meeting Room.
4. Click on Edit this Meeting.

If you no longer wish to use your PMI for meetings, you have the ability to disable it. This will make the PMI no longer available to all users belonging to your account. Any upcoming meetings originally booked using your PMI will need to be edited, and invites will need to be re-sent under a new Meeting ID. If this is something you want to do, here are the steps to do so.
If you are the account admin and would like to disable the PMI for all users, follow these steps:
1. Go to https://zoom.us/signin and log into your account.
2. In the navigation panel, click on Account Management, then Account Settings.
3. Under the “Schedule Meeting” heading, click to turn off the toggle button next to “Enable Personal Meeting ID”.
4. To prevent others from making further changes, click on the lock icon next to the toggle button you clicked in the previous step.
5. Click on Lock to confirm these changes.
1. Go to https://zoom.us/signin and log into your account.
2. In the navigation panel, click on User Management, then Group Management.
3. Click on the name of the group you wish to edit settings for (or just click the Edit button next to it).
4. Click on the Meeting header across the top.
5. Under Schedule Meeting, click to turn off the toggle button next to “Enable Personal Meeting ID”.
6. To prevent members of the group from making further changes to this setting, click on the lock icon beside it.
7. Click on Lock to confirm these changes.
1. Go to https://zoom.us/signin and log into your account.
2. In the navigation panel, click on Settings.
3. Click on Schedule Meeting.
4. Once you’re taken to that section, click to turn off the toggle button next to “Enable Personal Meeting ID”.
5. A pop-up will appear asking for your confirmation. Click on the Turn Off button.
Important
If the toggle has been grayed out, this means that someone at the admin level has locked the settings for your PMI. You will need to contact your Zoom admin for more information.

2. Click on Profile.
3. Next to the “Personal Meeting ID” section, click on Edit.
4. Click the checkbox next to “Use This ID for Instant Meetings”.
5. Click on the Save Changes button.
1. Open the Zoom program on your desktop and log into your account.
2. Click the arrow next to the New Meeting icon, and then click the checkbox next to “Use My Personal Meeting ID” to mark it if it isn’t already marked.
