There may come a time where you have a paid subscription to Angi – either as a homeowner or as a contractor – and you feel that it isn’t worth keeping anymore. Or, you may want to move on from Angi.com entirely and try a different way of finding (or advertising) home improvement services. If you find yourself in either of those situations, this article will show you what to do.

Important

If you have one of the Angi apps for your phone or tablet computer, deleting it off your device will neither cancel your paid subscription nor delete your account. You must do both of these things separately, and we’ll show you how below.

How to check if you have an active Angi membership

It can be useful to check if you have an active Angi membership so you can know when it’s going to renew (and, in some cases, how much it’s going to cost you). That way, you know how long you have to cancel your membership before it renews.

  1. Go to www.angi.com and log into your account.

  2. Move your cursor over your name in the top-right corner to open a drop-down menu, and then select Manage Account.

    Access your Angi account settings
  3. If you have an active Angi membership, it will be listed under a section labeled “Manage My Membership” with the type of membership it is and when it’s set to renew.

If you’re unsure about what your membership type means or how much you are paying, review our Angi membership and cost guide to understand which membership you are canceling.

Important things to know before you cancel an Angi membership

If you are in fact planning on canceling your Angi membership, here are a few general things that are good to keep in mind before you start the process.

  1. If you plan on canceling your Angi membership through the Help Center or over the phone, be sure to have your account and membership information ready so Angi’s customer service team can quickly locate those things.

  2. If you cancel your Angi Key membership (or Silver or Gold membership, if you had one from before Angi Key was introduced), you will retain the benefits of your membership until the date it would have been renewed. Then your account will revert to a basic membership.

  3. Canceling your paid Angi membership won’t automatically delete your account. If you wish to close your Angi account, you will have to do this separately after you cancel your paid membership and your account has been downgraded to a basic membership.

  4. You must submit your Angi membership cancellation request by no later than 5:00 PM Eastern Time on the day before your membership is set to renew. Otherwise, your membership will renew and you will be charged for it.

  5. If you plan to cancel your Angi membership or delete your account because you’ve encountered a scam or safety issue, try reporting it to Angi first. The company’s customer service team may be able to resolve the problem, and you may still be covered under Angi’s Happiness Guarantee. For instructions on how to report an Angi user, see our Angi Safety guide.

  5. The Angi Digital Assistant will bring up a help article about the Angi Key membership. Since you’re trying to cancel the membership, not learn more about it, click No when you’re asked if you got what you needed.

Ask the Angi Digital Assistant for more help with your membership
  6. You will be put in touch with an Angi customer support specialist, but first you need to fill in some information. Click the message that says Please Fill In Your Details.

Accessing the form for submitting the details of your report to Angi
  7. Here, you will be asked to fill out a series of fields, including your first name, last name, email address, phone number, a booking ID number (if your issue relates to a specific booking), and then a brief description of the problem.

Click in each field, type in the requested information, and then click Next to go on to the next field. Repeat until you reach the last field, where you should click Submit instead.

  8. After you’re connected with someone from Angi’s customer support team, you can correspond with them through the chat window to cancel your Angi membership.

To cancel over the phone:

You can contact Angi’s customer service department by phone at 1-888-811-ANGI (2644) and ask them to have your Angi Key membership canceled (or Angi Silver or Angi Gold membership, if you have one of those). Remember to have your name, the email address associated with your Angi account, and your Angi membership details ready so you can receive swift service.

Important FAQs for how to cancel an Angi membership or account

Here are a few other things that are often asked about – and that you might want to know – about canceling your Angi membership or account.

1. Can I unsubscribe from Angi emails without deleting my account?

Yes, and there are a couple of different ways you can do it. One is by editing the communication preferences in your account. To do so:

  1. Go to www.angi.com and log into your account.

  2. Move your cursor over your name in the top-right corner to open a drop-down menu, and then select Manage Account.

    Access your Angi account settings
  3. Scroll down to the section labeled “Communication Preferences”. Here, you can click the check boxes to decide which kinds of communications you want to receive from Angi. Then click Update Subscriptions. You can also click Unsubscribe from All to automatically unsubscribe from all optional Angi communications.

Choosing which communications you want to receive from Angi

You can also click the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of any marketing email from Angi, or text the word “STOP” in response to any text message you get from Angi.

If you have (or had) an Angi Gold subscription and would like to stop receiving Angi’s print magazine, email “homeowner@angi.com”.

Important

It can take up to a week to be completely removed from Angi’s mailing lists. Also be aware that unsubscribing from these lists won’t prevent Angi from sending you emails with important information. These regard things such as changes to your account status, job booking confirmations, contractor invoices, subscription billing details, and so on.

2. Can I get a refund for an Angi Key membership I don’t use?

Yes. If you cancel your paid Angi membership within 30 days of it renewing, you can also contact Angi customer service to request a refund.

3. If I delete my Angi account, what happens to my account information? Can I recover it?

Essentially, deleting your Angi account removes your credit card information from Angi’s payment platform partner, Stripe. However, your information will remain on Angi’s systems as a fraud prevention compliance measure. This means you can reactivate your account by logging into it again with the same credentials. You will have to re-enter your payment information, though.

Top 5 alternatives to Angi for home services

If you’re looking to cancel your Angi account, you might be in the market for another service like it. Here are some recommendations.

  • Thumbtack – One of Angi’s biggest competitors, Thumbtack offers a wider variety of services and gives homeowners greater control over which contractors they reach out to.

  • Houzz – A more design-oriented Angi alternative, Houzz provides spaces for homeowners and contractors to share ideas and pictures, and even allows for buying home products directly through the site.

  • TaskRabbit – If you’re looking for local freelancers with immediate availability and upfront pricing, backed by generous insurance in case something goes wrong, then maybe TaskRabbit is for you.

  • Porch – Partnered with companies such as Lowe’s and the Better Business Bureau, Porch is able to connect you with a wide network of contractors that it has a wealth of verified information about.

  • Home Depot Pro Referral – Formerly known as Redbeacon, Pro Referral offers services similar to Angi and Thumbtack backed by a well-known brand in the home improvement industry.
