How to Get Amazon Prime on TV

Can you watch Amazon Prime Instant Video on TV?

As a matter of fact, you can! There are two ways to do it. The first is the old-fashioned way: use cables to connect your computer to your TV and mirror your computer’s screen onto your TV. The other way is to install the Amazon Instant Video application on your smart TV, or a digital media player or video game console connected to your TV. Then, launch this application, log into your Amazon Prime account, and away you go!

How to watch Amazon Prime Instant Video on TV

Connecting your computer to your TV

The simplest way to connect your computer to your TV is with a High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) cable. You can get one from your local computer or electronics store, and they’re rather inexpensive. It looks like this:

First, plug one end into your computer’s HDMI port, like so:

Then, plug the other end into an HDMI port on your TV, which looks like this:

After you’re all plugged in, press a button on your TV or remote that says “Source” or “Input” to switch the source feed for your TV. When you select “HDMI”, your computer desktop should appear on the screen; if it doesn’t, try a different HDMI source (if your TV has more than one), or check your connections.

If you have an older TV that doesn’t have HDMI ports, you can connect your computer’s video and sound separately instead. First, connect your computer’s video with a VGA, S-Video, Composite Video, or DVI cable. To help you figure out what they look like, here are the ports that they plug into:

After that, connect your computer’s sound output (look for a microphone symbol) to your TV’s sound input with an audio cable (or set of cables). They look like this:

Once you’re connected, use the “Source” or “Input” button to change your TV’s source feed. In this case, though, select either “AV” or “Computer/CPU” instead of “HDMI”.

From there, you can control what happens on your TV screen from your computer! Happy watching!

Using the Amazon Instant Video application

You can also watch Amazon Instant Video by installing the application for it on your smart TV, or on a digital media player (e.g. Apple TV, Roku, or various Blu-Ray players) or video game console (e.g. Sony PlayStation 4, Microsoft Xbox One, or Nintendo Wii U) connected to your TV. To learn how to get this application, click this link, and then click on the appropriate device.

Once you install and launch the application, sign in using your Amazon account credentials. This will link your device to your Amazon account, allowing you to watch Amazon Instant Video on your TV just like you would on your computer.

To find videos that you are eligible to watch for free through Amazon Prime, look for the Amazon Prime Video section on the Amazon Instant Video application home page.

From there, watching Amazon Prime Instant Video on your TV is pretty similar to watching it on your computer.
